Defending champion Slingerz and Wales recorded dissimilar wins when the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued yesterday at the Tuschen Community ground.
Slingerz dismantled Uprising 9-0 in a match which was effectively over at the halftime interval, after the Vergenoegen unit romped to an 8-0 advantage. Ricardo Halley and Lennox Young recorded respective braces in the rout, with the former etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 18th and 22nd minute and the latter finding the back of the net in the 10th and 33rd minute.
Supporting with goals in the 20th, 28th, 35th, 40th, and 60th minute respectively were Seon Taylor, Jamal Codrington, Bryan Wharton, Leo Lovell and Jamal Perreira.
Meanwhile, Wales edged No. #1 All-Stars 2-1. Experienced forward Marvin Josiah slammed his left footed effort past the custodian into the back of the net from inside the area in the 40th minute to ensure Wales a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime interval.
However, Kumasi Patterson converted in the 76th minute to level the score, directing his power strike into the roof of the net. Nonetheless, Lexroy Mansfield would make his presence felt to secure the victory for Wales four minutes later, slotting into the back of the net from inside the penalty area. The event continues today at the same venue with another round of matches.
