Four hundred and eighty-six persons from the Region Ten community of Wismar, Linden, graduated from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Academy ZARA Computer Centre at its Wismar location on Saturday.
A release from the police said that the graduands completed the Foundation and Advanced level of Information Technology courses and Summer Programmes, which are offered free of cost at the GPF’s Zara Computer Centre at Wismar.
The 486 persons who graduated on Saturday represent the Academic Year September 2022 to August 2023, in which thirty Programmes (Nineteen Foundation, two Advanced and nine Summer Programmes in three different age groups from ages 6-9, 10-12 and 13-16), were successfully completed by the staff at the Centre.
The successful partnership between the GPF and the Jay and Sylvia Sobhraj Foundation, which began in 2012, has seen over 30,000 persons from all walks of life and ages, benefitting from these free computer studies.
Owing to the success of the first Centre, several other state-of-the-art ZARA centres have been established in almost all of the regions in Guyana.
Attending yesterday’s graduation ceremony were President of the Jay and Sylvia Sobhraj Foundation, Dr Jay Sohbraj, his wife, Sylvia Sobhraj and the Foundation’s IT Consultant, Nardeo Singh, along with the Commander of Regional Police Division #10, Superintendent Guy Nurse, and GPF-ZARA Centres Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent Gladwin Hanover.
