Two persons died in a fire at Silvertown, Linden last night.
Reports say that a 12-year-old celebrating her birthday and an aunt died.
The Guyana Fire Service today issued the following statement:
…the fire that occurred at Lot 112 Second Street, Silvertown, Linden, last evening was maliciously set by a known person who has since been arrested and placed into custody by the police.
The fire claimed the lives of 52-year-old Sherri Moore and her 12-year-old niece Yokella Adams before destroying the house, leaving seven (7) people homeless.
Due to radiated heat, two nearby houses were also damaged. An eastern wall on the top floor of one of the buildings was severely scorched, while the other house suffered minimal damage to some window panes.
Two jets working from Water Carrier #15 in conjunction with Light Pump #121 from the Linden Fire Station were used to extinguish the fire.
Once more, the Fire Service sends its sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.
Arson is a serious offense and once caught perpetrators will face the full brunt of the law.
