Guyana’s premier thoroughbred Alado was poised to repeat as Guyana Cup champion on Sunday at the overflowing Rising Sun Turf Club, but ‘Easy Time’ did not get the memo.
The steed, imported less than two weeks ago from the USA following an auction, shockingly triumphed in the feature C and lower one-mile event of the 15th edition of the marquee event on the local racing calendar.
Easy Time, the Master Z stablemate of Alado, led El Tarzan of the Slingerz Racing Stable, followed by Our Stuie of the Jagdeo Racing Stable and Bossalina, owned by Deleep Esreepersaud.
For its heroics, the new Guyana Cup champion earned its handlers the lion’s share of the race purse and the huge glistening winner’s trophy.
The main race had an overall purse of US$44,849 (G$9,687,500), with the winner carting off US$23,148 or 51.6%.
