Forty-three-year-old Delano Kendell, of 19th Street Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weever on Monday to answer to break and enter and larceny charges and was jailed for three years.
It is alleged that between the 17th June and 25th July 2023, at Queenstown, Georgetown, the defendant broke and enter the dwelling house of Vishnu Singh and stole one double door fridge valued at $300,000; a kitchen faucet valued at $30,000, a toilet bowl valued at $70,000, six matching toilet sets valued at $66,000 and a Delta faucet valued at $80,000. The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court heard that on 17th July, the VC secured his home leaving the items mentioned. On 25th July around 9:00 hours, the VC returned and observed his home had been broken into and the items listed were missing. The matter was reported and an investigation was carried out resulting in the accused being arrested. The defendant was told of the allegation and cautioned and admitted to the offence. With the help of the defendant, the fridge was recovered.
It is also alleged that between the 8th and 9th July 2023, at Lamaha Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, the defendant stole one angle grinder valued at $9,000, one welding plant valued at $38,000, one black décor saw valued at $30,000, one jack hammer valued at $160,000, a 2,100 feet drop-cord valued at $120,000, one impact gun valued at $34,000, one screw gun valued at $40,000, one 4ft spirit-level valued at $6,000 and one welding rod valued at $21,000, property of Edward Adams.
It is further alleged that on the same date, at Lamaha Street, Alberttown Georgetown, the defendant stole one saw valued at $60,000, one angle grinder valued at $30,000, one spirit-level valued at $6,000 and one drill valued at $28,000, property of Ranjiff Patrick. The defendant pleaded guilty to the two charges. The court heard that both the virtual complainants on 8th July at about 17:00 hours, secured their tools and the other items listed and left for their residence.
On Sunday about 9:00 hours, they returned and observed two locks on the container removed and the items listed missing. The matter was reported and an investigation was launched resulting in the arrest of the accused. The defendant was told of the allegation and cautioned and admitted to the offence. With the help of the defendant a saw, drill and blower were recovered.
At the Georgetown court, Magistrate Weever asked the defendant if he wanted to say anything and he replied by saying “I could get back the rest of stuff that I thief, I could get back the rest of stuff, I never get sentenced before.” Kendell was sentenced to serve three years imprisonment for the break and enter charge and two years’ imprisonment each for the simple larceny. The sentences are to run concurrently.
