Stanley La Cruz, 59, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara was on August 10th charged with causing the death of his wife and three others, in a two-vehicle crash at Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on August 7.
The defendant appeared at the Diamond Magis-trate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charges which stated that on August 7, at Craig Public Road, he drove in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of his wife, Ivette Domingo, of Mon Repos, and three others: 60-year-old Eric Christopher Thomas, his wife 56-year-old Annette Williams, and their daughter Lynette Chappelle, all of Charity Squatting Area, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.
A 13-year-old cousin and Chappelle’s 7-year-old son, Keron Chappelle were also injured in the collision.
The accident which involved a vehicle driven by La Cruz and a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old of Mocha, EBD, occurred at around 21.00 hours, according to the Guyana Police Force.
The defendant is accused of making a U-turn and striking a truck, GYY 9560, while it was travelling north along the highway.
Williams and Thomas perished at the scene of the accident while Chappelle and Domingo succumbed to their injuries while in hospital.
La Cruz was placed on $100,000 bail for each of the four charges and was also charged with driving an uninsured motor-vehicle. He denied this charge and was placed on $50,000 bail.
