Adrian Brandt, 44, of Lot 9 Norton Street, Georgetown, appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus to answer to the two charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges.
It was reported that on August 14, at Princes Street, Georgetown, Brandt had in his possession, a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol, without being a licensed firearm holder at the time. Also, at the same date and place, he had in his possession, 15 live rounds of matching ammunition.
The court heard that on the day in question, the defendant was seated in the driver’s seat of motor car PAD 2499. Officers approached Brandt and introduced themselves and immediately noticed a firearm positioned on his lap. One of the officers took control of the firearm, identified as a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol, with a magazine containing 11 rounds of live ammunition. The defendant was asked if he was in possession of a firearm licence, to which he responded in the negative. He was then told of the allegation, cautioned, and arrested.
The court prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence, added to the fact that the accused is known to the police as in 2019, he was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment after admitting to assaulting a minibus conductor and other minor offences.
Bail was refused.
Brandt is expected to make his next court appearance on September 13 for statements.
