Mobile Money Guyana (mmg), on Wednesday partnered with the Ministry of Home Affairs to add the Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Prison Service as billers on the platform.
A release from the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph said that this means that relatives and friends can now send money to inmates at any of the six prison facilities managed by the Guyana Prison Service. They would first have to register with the Prison Service before receiving mmg credentials with which they can send money directly to the organization to cover purchases by inmates in the tuck shop or special medical expenses. The service can also be used to cover funeral expenses and the cost of inmate labour, the release said.
Persons interacting with the Guyana Fire Service can now also make payments for petrol licences, fire reports and fire safety and music certificates.
General Manager of mmg, Bobita Ram, expressed her gratitude to the two organizations for embracing innovation and said that financial technology e-governance cultivates a digital system that not only modernizes the public sector but also enhances trust and accountability.
