Thirty-year-old Allan Stephen, a mechanic and driver of 329 Tabatinga, Lethem, appeared at the Diamond/Grove Magis-trate’s Court yesterday before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It is alleged that on Sunday, August 13, police intercepted minibus, BAC 5750, at Grove Public Road, which Stephen was driving. During a search of the vehicle, ranks discovered some 4,000 grams of cannabis in a sealed blue jar on top of the minibus.
In his defence, Stephen contended that he was just the driver of the minibus and did not load the bus on the day in question. He noted that there were seven other persons aboard the bus including him and his conductor, and he was only paid to do the charter.
The magistrate however refused to grant bail and remanded Stephen to prison until September 13.
