Two of Guyana’s standout power-lifters, Dominic Tyrell and Romeo Hunter are primed to represent the Golden Arrowhead at the World Classic & Equipped Sub-Junior and Junior Powerlifting Champion-ships in Romania.
This is according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation.
According to the release, from August 24 to September 3, the flag would be flying high at the event since the nation will be represented in the Sub-Juniors segment of the competition by Hunter while the Trinidad based Tyrell will be taking the platform in the Juniors category.
Hunter will battle 20 other lifters in the 83kg class from Finland, Italy, USA, New Zealand, Great Britain, Slovakia, India, Czechia, Ireland, Canada, Turkey, Thailand, South Africa, and Japan.
Tyrell will be seeking glory in the 74kg division taking on 19 other athletes from Canada, Spain, India, France, Italy, Singapore, Hungary, Mexico, Ireland, New Zealand, Great Britain, Philippines, Czechia, Kuwait, and Turkey.
The release stated that both athletes have been going through rigorous training sessions by their respective coaches and following a very strict schedule as well as a diet plan in order to be in the best possible shape for the event.
Over 112 lifters have been nominated in the various categories for the Sub-Juniors competition with 150 set to face off in the junior category showdown.
Accompanying the duo would be IPF Category 11 Referee, Franklyn Brisport-Luke who would also be performing official duties.
Tyrell and Hunter’s sojourn comes on the heels of the World Classic Open Powerlifting Champion- ships which took place in June in Malta, and where Guyana was represented by Carlos ‘The Show Stopper’ Peterson-Griffith who won three medals.
