Hakeem Khan, (address not stated), appeared yesterday at the George-town Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly to answer to a charge of fraud.

He pleaded not guilty.

It is alleged that on November 22, at Sheriff Street, Georgetown, Khan being solely entrusted by Suneeta Singh, a cashier employed by Mima Décor, with the sum of $2,130,000 in order to make payments to Ramps Logistics on behalf of Mima Décor, converted to the money to his own use and benefit.

The court heard that the accused was employed by Mima Décor as a driver and one of his duties was to make payments on behalf of the company. On the day in question the cashier handed over the aforementioned sum of cash for payment to Ramps Logistics for services rendered. However, the payments were never made and the accused never returned to work. The company bus which he was driving was left abandoned. Efforts to contact the accused prove futile until August 16, 2023, when he was seen on a work site. The police were contacted and Khan was apprehended.

The police prosecutor objected to bail and it was refused.

Khan was remanded to prison and will appear again in court on September 15.
