TT players off to China

Four table tennis players reportedly left Guyana Thursday for a training stint in China.

The four are Shemar Britton, Chelsea Edghill, Krystian Sahadeo and Malachi Moore.

Top player Jonathan Van Lange has missed the trip because of his commitments with the Guyana U17 cricket team which is currently participating in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Super50 and two-day tournaments while Ebo Mc Neil was not selected.

No coach has accompanied the players.

The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has not released any information on the trip but this newspaper understands that the stint will serve as training for Britton and Edghill who will participate in the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile from October 29 – November 5 for which Britton qualified while Edghill was given a wild card.

The two, Britton and Edghill, are also scheduled to participate in the ITTF Pan American Championships in Havana, Cuba from September 10-17 where Edghill’s name is listed among those for the women’s singles while Britton’s name is not on the list of the male qualifiers according to the ITTF website.

Meanwhile, the GTTA has named a team to participate in the Caribbean U13 and U11 championships in the Dominican Republic.

The team selected is U13 girls, Jasmine Bilingy, Samara Sukhai, Akira Watson and Seona Barker.

Chase Outar and Kayden Meusa are the U13 boys while the U11 boys are Darius Daniels, Aaron Hopkinson, Abiniora Johnson and Zion Hickerson.

Last year’s U11 Caribbean champion Sukhai will not be defending her title as she has moved up to the U13 category.
