Linden teen gets 12 months for stealing scooter

Leon Cameron

Nineteen-year-old Leon Cameron, of Lot 12 Wismar Housing Scheme, Linden, appeared on Friday before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court to answer to a charge of simple larceny.

It is alleged that on Tuesday, August 15, at Lot 5 Windsor Estates, Cameron stole a Honda Ruckus motor scooter valued at $700,000, belonging to Salim Paul.

During the court proceedings, the accused admitted to the theft and revealed that he had left the stolen bike at his friend’s residence in Canal Number One. Cameron also told the Magistrate that he had initially intended to return the bike, but upon seeing the substantial evidence against him and the fact that he had altered the bike’s appearance significantly, he concluded that his intention to return it was no longer credible.

After hearing the defendant’s testimony, the magistrate sentenced him to 12 months’ imprisonment.
