Guyana recorded two wins and suffered three defeats on the opening day of the Volleyball International Cup in Roraima, Brazil.
Guyana’s victories came when the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) men’s team, defeated Suriname and Amazonas respectively.
DVA defeated Suriname 3-0 in their opening match. They prevailed 25-22 in the first set before edging out a 29-27 second set win. The win was then sealed in the third set by a 25-19 score.
Guyana would then down Amazonas by a similar margin in their outing. On the other hand, Guyana suffered losses when the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) men and women’s units as well as the DVA women’s outfit lost their matches.
The DVA females lost 0-3 to the Amazonas. The Guyanese lost the first set 2-25 before falling in the second and third sets, 6-25 and 11-25, respectively.
Meanwhile, the BVA men’s outfit lost to the Roraima U23 outfit 13-25, 19-25, and 19-25. Likewise, the BVA female outfit went down to Boa Vista 0-3. The Berbicians lost 9-25, 5-25, and 4-25. The BVA unit also lost to Suriname in their second fixture, 8-25, 14-25, and 9-25.
