Two women were placed on $25,000 bail each after they were charged yesterday with assaulting each other.
Thirty-year-old, Shonetta Porter, a teacher of East Bank Demerara and twenty-seven-year-old, Aketa Williams, a policewoman of Lot 30 Pattensen, Turkeyen, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Magistrate Rhondell Weever charged with assaulting each other.
The particulars of this offence stated that on 10th June, at Longden Street, Georgetown, Porter unlawfully assaulted Williams so as to cause her actual bodily harm. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is also alleged that on the same date and place, Williams unlawfully assaulted Porter so as to cause her actual bodily.
The defendant pleaded guilty with explanation. Williams told the court that Porter attacked her first. As a result the Magistrate changed her guilty plea to not guilty. The prosecutor had no objections to bail.
The matter has been transferred to court 6 and the defendants are expected to make their next court appearance on 25th September for statements.
