(Trinidad Guardian) Life is a circle and what you do to others today will definitely find its way back to you one day.
This was the advice issued yesterday by Alex Camacho minutes after he identified the body of his nephew, Daniel Camacho, at the Forensic Science Centre, in St James.
Daniel, 24, was one of two people killed by gunmen in a car at Hindustan Road, Arouca, on Sunday.
His girlfriend Shenelle Edwards, 22, of New Valencia Housing Development, Valencia, was also killed after three armed gunmen opened fire on Camacho’s car around 10.15 pm.
Edwards’ 18-year-old sister, who was seated in the back seat, was shot in the left shoulder during the incident.
She was said to have been in a stable condition at hospital yesterday.
While Edwards’ relatives declined to speak with reporters at the centre, Camacho’s uncle, Alex, speculated that jealousy and envy had led to their deaths.
He described Daniel as a hard-working and committed contractor who had been working to build a legacy for his six-year-old daughter.
Contrary to social media claims that Edwards had been pregnant at the time of the killing, Alex said this was not true as she had unfortunately miscarried one month ago.
Regarding Daniel, he claimed, “He never used to smoke, he never used to drink.”
Alex said the family was not sure what had transpired in the minutes before the shooting.
He said his nephew, who lived at Hindustan Trace, had been accustomed to the finer things in life from a young age, as the family was well-off.
He said despite this, Daniel, who had been shot more than 20 times, had never been part of any criminal gang and had worked hard to ensure he could afford his own house and car.
“People always jealous when they see you doing good,” he added.
Thoroughly disgusted by the crime situation, Alex said, “I personally don’t think enough is being done about crime…it’s just basically everybody doing what they want, and nobody doing anything about it.”
Calling on the Government to take drastic steps to reign in the crime situation, he endorsed the performance of former CoP Gary Griffith as he claimed, “Crime had been down then.”
To the killers roaming the land, he warned, “Know what it is you doing because the same gun you pull for somebody today…that same gun could come back at you tomorrow.”
Officers from the Arouca CID who responded to the shooting minutes after found the bullet-riddled car on the road.
It was reported that Camacho’s Nissan Almera had been blocked by the gunmen’s Honda Civic – and that three men armed with automatic weapons opened fire on the victims’ car.
A total of 39 spent 5.56 mm shells were found at the scene
