Adrian Hetmyer slammed a century and took four wickets as Rose Hall Canje Aborsmart defeated Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes U15 team by 79 runs to lift the RL Constructing Limited title Sunday.
Hetmyer slammed 109 out of his team’s total of 190 and returned to take the first four wickets to fall in the match which was reduced to 40-overs-a-side because of overnight rain and moisture on the pitch.
Batting first, Rose Hall Canje openers Hetmyer and Richard Ramdehol, put on an opening stand of 85 in 24 overs before Ramdehol was dismissed by off spinner Avinash Sooklall for 25.
Hetmyer and the attacking Lakram Singh added 70 runs for the second wicket with Singh making 28.
Hetmyer was eventually dismissed by Balraj Narine but not before reaching three figures.
Hetmyer struck eight boundaries and one six as RHC closed their innings at 190 for 6 from their allotted 40 overs.
Needing to score 191 to win another major BCB title, RHT Farfan and Mendes U15 team was rocked back by fast bowler Hetmyer who claimed the wickets of Munesh Rampersaud, 07, Balraj Narine, 01, Shobik Mohammed, 00 and Koomchand Ramnarace, 02 to reduce the home team to 32 for 4 in the ninth over.
Leon Reddy went for 11 and Tameshwar Deonandan was run out for for six as RHTFM slumped to 52 for 6.
They were eventually dismissed for 111 in 30 overs.
National Under 13 all-rounder Raffel McKenzie showed poise with a solid unbeaten 32 while the promising Matthew Perreira, nephew of former national Under 19 captain Shawn Perreira supported with 20.
Hetmyer took 4-20 and J. Hemraj 2-21.
The winning team won $60,000.00 and a trophy while the runners-up won $40,000.00 and a trophy.
Hetmyer received a cash prize and a trophy.
Chairman of the BCB Competitions Committee Leslie Solomon congratulated Rose Hall Canje on winning the tournament and expressed satisfaction at the standard of play stating that the future of Berbice cricket was in safe hands.
Special thanks was extended to Rondhall Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of RL Contracting Ltd for his sponsorship while BCB president Hilbert Foster praised the outstanding work of the executives of the winning team.
The success, he stated was due to sheer hard work and dedication. Foster stated that while he was disappointed that his club was defeated in the final, he was delighted that Rose Hall Canje continues to excel on the cricket field. The BCB, he said was seeing positive development from its investment in youth cricket adding that Rose Hall Canje was one of the beneficiaries.
The club has received uniforms, catching crib, practice nets, cricket balls, batting cage, bowling machine, scorebooks, water pitches, educational materials and grants.
Foster urged the youths to remain focused as the future was very bright.
