Residents of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara can soon look forward to the reconstruction of Factory Road to a stronger, six-inch-thick concrete thoroughfare, a release from the Ministry of Public Works said yesterday..
Speaking at a contract signing ceremony in the village yesterday, Minister Deodat Indar noted that the project comes on stream following community consultations led by Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.
Indar said the road was not initially built to withstand the heavy traffic it currently accommodates to facilitate housing expansion projects in the community.
As such, the Minister stated the 700m x 4.2m roadway will be built to handle increased traffic, while consultations take place to redirect heavy-duty trucks.
Permanent Secretary, Vladim Persaud said a Blank Bill of Quantity will be issued to the Neighbourhood Democratic Council to increase monitoring of the Factory Road project.
The Ministry has gone out to tender for revetment works and the construction of culverts in the lead-up to other roadworks at Enterprise.
