Police are investigating the death a 74-year-old Stewartville, West Coast Demerara man on Monday night after a minibus ran over him on the Leonora Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
The dead man was identified by police as Ograsane Samaroo.
A police report stated that the 54-year-old driver of the minibus, BXX 6727, was proceeding east along the road when he observed a black car, PSS 1233, stationary on the footpath with the driver’s door open.
The bus driver told police that Samaroo was attempting to enter into the driver’s seat but fell onto the roadway, resulting in the front wheel of the bus running over him. A Breathalyzer test was done on the bus driver and the results showed no trace of alcohol in his system.
Samaroo was picked up by police ranks and rushed in an unconscious condition to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the bus driver is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
