The groundwork is being laid for the forging of a partnership involving the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) and German athletic apparel and footwear brand, Adidas.
This is according to President of the AAG, Sheryl Hermonstine who spoke with this publication yesterday from Budapest, Hungary, the host city for the ongoing World Athletics Championship.
“It is the beginning of a relationship” Hermonstine stated yesterday.
The AAG head added that Cubie Seegobin, a Guyanese agent for Adidas has been instrumental as a middleman and conversations are ongoing.
“I contacted Cubie and we spoke and he said he was going to get adidas to sponsor uniforms for Worlds and he did and then he said he will get them to do some for the Pan American Games in October/November and he did.”
Adidas outfitted star sprinters, Emanuel Archibald and Aliyah Abrams, the local representatives at the event, perhaps a signal of more substantial transactions to come.
Said Seegobin in a voice note sent to this daily.
“The AAG made a contact and Adidas made the uniforms for Worlds and moving forward, they probably will be supporting you in whatever way they can, it is the beginning of a relationship.”
Hermonstine stated that talks are also on the table involving the CARIFTA Team and star junior athlete, Tianna Springer who has won gold medals this year in the 400m at the CARIFTA Games, the South American U-20 Championships and the Commonwealth Youth Games.
“We spoke about the CARIFTA Games and there are talks on the table also for Tianna Springer and also Archibald, but for now that is about it,” Hermonstine concluded.
