Quacy Kitt, a 33-year-old businessman, (address not stated), appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly where he was charged with obtaining money under false pretence.
It is alleged that between July 07 and 13 at Brickdam, Georgetown, Kitt obtained the sum of $1,700,000 from Romario Chandrapaul by falsely pretending that he was in the position to obtain a young professional home through the Ministry of Housing and Water.
It is also alleged that between August 21 and 23, he obtained the sum of $500,000 from Roopnarine Sammy by falsely pretending that he was in the position to obtain a young professional home through the Ministry of Housing and Water. Kitt pleaded not guilty to the two charges that were read to him.
The police prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant had several other matters of a similar nature before the court as well as the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
Bail was refused.
Kitt is scheduled to make his next court appearance on September 8 for statements.
