Twenty-three-year-old Kyle Small, a clothes vendor, of ‘B’ Field Sophia, Georgetown, appeared yesterday before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with assault with intent to rob.
Small pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him.
It is alleged that on August 20, at Wellington Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of others, Small unlawfully assaulted Marlon Chester with intent to rob him.
The court heard that during the course of the assault, Chester sustained stab wounds for which he was treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital. Chester and his friends were able to overpower and apprehend Small and took him to the City Constabulary Outpost, which in turn handed him over to the police.
The police prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant was armed with an ice pick coupled with the prevalence and seriousness of the offence.
However, Small told the court that he is innocent and pleaded with the magistrate to grant him bail because Chester assaulted him in the presence of the City Constable. “Your Worship, these police claim that they have a video footage of the entire incident and up to now they can’t show me. My mother home sick, she troubling with pressure, please put me on a bail”, he urged,
In spite of the man’s entreaties, the magistrate refused bail.
The matter was adjourned to September 27 for statements.
