Carlos ‘Beast’ Evans, who was detained by the Surinamese police since July 22, was on Thursday handed over to Guyana law enforcement, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said yesterday.

In a telephone interview, Blanhum told the Sunday Stabroek that Evans is to be charged next week in connection with the March 13, 2020 murder of Rosignol businessman, Tony Bishnauth.

The Crime Chief had told  this newspaper that he was informed of Evans’ arrest in July by his Surinamese counterpart and since then the Guyana Police Force has been awaiting his deportation to Guyana. A wanted bulletin had been issued for both Carlos called ‘Beast’, 28, and his brother, Medellin Evans, back on March 18, 2020 for the murder of Bishnauth who was shot and killed during a suspected robbery on March 13, 2020, at around 11 pm at Carriage Road, Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.

Seventy-eight-year-old Bishnauth, also known as ‘Uncle Tony’ and ‘England Man’, of Cotton Tree Village, West Coast Berbice, operated Sandra’s Snackette at the Rosignol Stelling Road, and was fatally shot in the region of his right ear during a robbery at the snackette.  Several other persons who were present celebrating the deceased’s 78th birthday were also shot and injured during the robbery. The investigation was spearheaded by ranks of the Guyana Police Force Major Crimes Unit.

Suriname’s media house, Waterkant, had reported back in 2022 that the brother of Carlos, Medellin, died after a stabbing incident on the Hoogestraat in Suriname on the evening of September 24, 2022. According to the publication, Medellin got into an argument with the suspect, identified as Quinten M, who had allegedly owed him money, which he demanded. After the suspect refused to pay, Medellin reportedly pulled out a handgun and attempted to discharge a round. It was noted in the report that after “the gun did not fire,” the suspect then used a sharp object to stab Medellin multiple times about his body. The suspect was subsequently arrested at a fishing company in the Livorno Resort. “The investigation, in this case, has been transferred to the Capital Offences Department,” the report noted.
