There were mixed fortunes for the two New Amsterdam teams competing in the Berbice FA’s Senior Men’s League (SML) when play continued last Friday at the Rosignol Community Center ground.
In the first game of the double-header New Amsterdam United edged out Hopetown Rangers FC 2-1 to register their first win in the 8-team SML.
Leonardo Adams gave the NA boys the advantage in the 7th minute and the lead lasted until the 76th minute as Matthew Doris netted the equaliser.
Both teams went in search of breaking the deadlock, but it was Tyril Ogleton who delivered the winner five minutes from the end to secure the first point of the season after four outings. Fifth placed Rangers were on the receiving for the 3rd time in 5 games as they remain on 6 points, while NA United occupy 7th position.
In the feature match, Rosignol United chalked up their 4th win in 5 games to maintain their unbeaten run and move to the top of the points table on 13 points.
Against Cougars FC, Neil Linton gave the homeside the lead after 11 minutes, but the visitors levelled the score eleven minutes later through Avion Kendall. Carlos Grant broke the stalemate in the 80th minute to ensure his side took all three points. Cougars who were on the losing end for the 2nd match were left on 6 points in 4th position.
The Berbice FA’s SML will continue today with another double-header starting at 5pm with a bottom of the table clash between Fyrish FC, in search of their first point, and NA United. The night cap at 7pm will feature Cup holders, Paradise Invaders in 3rd place on 10 points from 4 games against 6th placed Ithaca FC on 3 points.
