Four teenagers died after their car collided yesterday morning with a parked motor lorry on Resource Public Road, Canal # 2 Polder, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Dead are 17 year-old Daveanand Singh of Lot 1566 Providence, East Bank Demerara; 19 year-old Ameisha Jaikarran of La Grange Old Road, WBD; 18 year-old Deviane Narine of Kitty, Georgetown and 19 year-old Daniel Tribani of La Grange, WBD.
According to a police report, the accident involved motorcar PAE 5773 owned by Mavis Bankay Singh and driven by Davenand Singh and motor lorry GTT 6960, owned and parked by Eric Tucker, a 27-year-old of 24-25 Resource Canal #2 Polder, West Bank Demerara. Enquiries disclosed that the motorcar was proceeding east along the northern side of the access road at a fast rate when Singh lost control of the vehicle and ended up on the northern parapet into the rear of the motor lorry, which was parked.
As a result, Singh then hit a concrete fence situated north of the public road. Two of the occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and another person were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in an unconscious condition, where they died while receiving medical attention.
A neighbour related that he rushed out of his yard after he heard a loud noise and the car involved in the accident went through the fence. A man was lying motionless on the road presumed to be dead and they removed the other two occupants from the car. The man explained that he was accompanied by others and they transported the injured to the hospital.
A Guyana Power and Light pole was broken as a result of the collision. The bodies are lying at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination. Further investigations are in progress.
