League leader Slingerz maintained their perfect record in the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League, dismantling Crane Rovers 5-0 yesterday at the Tuschen ground.
The deadlock, which was broken in the fourth minute, was a moment of individual brilliance from experienced forward Jamal Codrington. Skipping past the challenges of two defenders, Codrington, upon cutting in from the left side of the field, unleashed a curling right footed strike which settled into the back of the net from inside the area.
Lennox Young then got into the scoring act as he doubled his side’s advantage in the 25th minute. Racing onto a through pass down the right side, Young, in a similar fashion to Codrington, lashed a powerful left-footed shot past the goalkeeper from outside the area, after cutting onto his left foot.
The score would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval. However, the lopsided nature of the contest continued in the second half when Slingerz recorded an additional three conversions. Deon Alfred continued the goal scoring exploits of the Vergenoegen outfit, opening his account in the 63rd minute with a powerful left foot shot from outside the penalty box, after receiving a throw-in from the right side of the field.
Alfred then completed his double to push the score to 4-0 in the 69th minute, racing onto a through pass following a passing combination outside the penalty area, before slotting past the goalkeeper from inside the penalty box.
The wily Alfred would then turn provider for the fifth and final goal in the 87th minute, as he played a through pass to Dominique Bobb from outside the box, who lashed his first time strike past the goalkeeper from inside the 18 yard area.
Meanwhile, Eagles clawed their way past No. #1 All-Stars 4-2. David Chisolm bagged a brace in the 14th and 60th minute, whilst Telbert Baptiste and Kevin Kubal found the back of the net in the 15th and 61st minute respectively.
