The Colts, Kwakwani Untouchables and Mambas recorded wins when the inaugural edition of the “One Guyana” Basketball Premier League continued on Saturday night at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The Colts defeated the Trojans 62-52. Shayne Webster top scored with 14 points for the victory, while Richard Jefford and O’Quacey Short were the next best scorers with 10 and nine points, respectively. Adding eight and six points, respectively were Domitri Rankin and Carmelo Mon-Son-Hing.
Kadeem Peterkin recorded a game-high of 20 points, while the trio of Thoriyay Duncan, Atilla Williamson, and Jabon Joseph netted 11, nine, and six points respectively.
Meanwhile, Kwakwani Untouchables edged the Guyana Defence Force 65-61. Domair Gladstone led the way with 20 points while Jamal Gilkes tallied 19 points. For the losers, Mark Fraser led the way with 21 points while Devon Fraser recorded 13 points.
Also, the Mambas defeated the Guardians 52-48.
The tournament, which is a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport (MCY&S) and G-Boats Incorporated, will be run by the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation. It forms part of the National Sports Academy and features 14 teams divided into two zones, which are the Harpy Eagles and Jaguars Conferences, respectively.
A minimum of 56 fixtures and a maximum of 63 matches are projected for the competition, which concludes in March 2024. The winner of the tournament, which will be played every Saturday at the National Gymnasium, will pocket $1,000,000, while the loser will receive $500,000.
