Marusia Persaud, a 44-year-old housewife of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested on Sunday for possession of 22 grammes of cannabis during an intelligence-led operation.
On Sunday at about 16.00 hours, ranks acting on information went to Lot 8 Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, to see Persaud. However, when Persaud observed the police, she threw a bulky plastic bag over her fence.
The ranks retrieved the bag and discovered inside, a quantity of small parcels containing cannabis. The suspect was arrested and taken along with the cannabis into police custody.
The cannabis when weighed amounted to 22 grammes. Persaud remains in custody and is likely to be charged shortly.
