The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri suffered a water loss for several hours on Sunday, August 27 while a backup line was being installed.

A statement from CJIA yesterday said that it is currently in the process of installing a redundant water supply line to improve the water infrastructure at the terminal building. This new line will provide treated water to the terminal and will serve as a backup to the Guyana Water Incor-porated’s (GWI) water treatment system.

“Regrettably, on Sunday, August 27, GWI encountered challenges while connecting the independent water line to the terminal, resulting in a blowout of the main connecting valve.

Consequently, the terminal experienced a temporary disruption in water supply for several hours”, CJIA said.

It added that GWI’s contractors and engineers worked diligently to rectify the situation and successfully restored the water supply to the terminal later that evening.

The statement said that GWI anticipates completing the installation of the additional Water Supply System within one week. This system will not only benefit the airport but also enhance the service provided by GWI to residents in close proximity to the airport, the statement said.

“CJIA sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this incident may have caused to our valued passengers and staff. We understand the importance of uninterrupted services and are taking proactive measures to ensure the airport has the necessary resources to operate seamlessly”, the statement said.
