A man succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital today after he was involved in an accident along the Rose Hall Town Public Road yesterday afternoon.
Dead is Avishkar Ishmael, 20, of Train Line Dam, Port Mourant, Corentyne.
According to information gathered, the 4 pm accident involved motor car, HD 1189 which was being driven by Navin Narine, 43, of Lot 1 ‘D’ Hampshire Village, Corentyne, and Ishmael who was riding motorcycle, CM 1602.
Based on the police’s initial investigation, Narine was proceeding south along the Rose Hall Town Public Road reportedly at a normal rate while Ishmael was proceeding east on another access road allegedly at a fast rate when at the intersection he hit the front portion of the motor car.
As a result of the collision, Ishmael, who fell into a nearby drain on the southeastern side of the road, sustained serious injuries to his head and about his body.
He was picked up in a conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and the police and rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor who transferred him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was further seen and examined by another doctor on duty.
He was subsequently transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted as a patient in the accident and emergency ward in a semi-conscious condition. Stabroek News was told that Ishmael succumbed to his injuries just around 1 pm today.
Police have launched an investigation into the collision.
