Dear Editor,
Hamilton Green’s letter (9/1/2023) consistently refers to Professor Emeritus Persaud. SN should note that there are two people who fit that description – myself and Professor Narayan Persaud. I point to this because the points made by Green do not fully correspond with my views on indentureship and other issues of Guyana’s politics and history. I am only generally aware of Dr. Narayan Persaud’s views. For my part, I do not believe that indentureship was a new kind of slavery. The labour of indentured servants were “commodities”, but not themselves as persons. The difference is fundamental.
Sincerely
Dr Randolph Persaud
