No. 1 All-Stars and Belle West recorded comfortable victories when the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued at the Tuschen ground.
The No. 1 All-Stars mauled Crane by a 4-0 score-line. The contest threatened to be a very competitive affair, as only one conversion was recorded in the first half. Deon David found the back of the net in the 13th minute with a right-footed shot from inside the 18-yard area into the back of the net.
However, any hopes of a Crane comeback were thwarted in the second period, as three goals in the space of 16 minutes settled the outcome. Glenville commenced the aforesaid goal rush as he slotted past the goalkeeper into the far corner in the 60th minute.
Sibling Germin Hazel then got into the scoring act to push the score to 3-1, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet with a powerful strike into the roof of the net in the 68th minute. The deserved win was then sealed in the form of Jared Softleigh, who made his presence felt in the 76th minute, slamming his effort beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Belle West crushed the Uprising 3-1. An own goal opened the scoring for Belle West in the seventh minute, as Christopher McCurdy inadvertently directed the ball into the back of the net.
The lead proved to be short-lived, as Sanjay Shaw slotted past the custodian from inside the area to equalize the match in the 12th minute. However, it proved to be a game of two halves, as the No. 1 All-Stars unit recorded two unanswered goals to seal the result.
Travis Simon rifled a powerful shot into the far corner in the 61st minute to make it 2-1. This was followed by a Paul Singh conversion into the roof of the net in the 81st minute.
The event continues today at the same venue with another doubleheader. At 14:00hrs, Wales will lock horns with Pouderoyen, while Uitvlugt will match skills with the Eagles at 16:00hrs.
