Thirty-year-old Steve Bacchus, a taxi driver of Lot 25 E North Sophia, was refused bail after he appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond/Grove Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with trafficking in narcotics.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge. It is alleged that on August 11, 2023, Bacchus conspired with Roy Romoyon to traffic 11,200 grams of cannabis.
The prosecution objected to bail, citing Bacchus as a flight risk after he attempted to escape lawful custody in 2014 when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment for that offence. He is currently before the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for a similar offence, that is, trafficking in narcotics. Magistrate Scarce refused Bacchus bail, and he will make his next court appearance on October 13.
