Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph brushed aside Victoria Scorpions 2-1 when the East Coast Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued on Wednesday evening at the Buxton Community Centre ground.
A 2-0 lead at the end of the first half essentially sealed the result, as the Victoria Scorpions’ unit seemed incapable of scoring following a lackluster offensive performance.
Kevin Smith broke the deadlock as he found the back of the net in the 15th minute. Smith slotted home into the lower left corner after his initial attempt during a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper inside the six-yard box was deflected into his resulting path.
Trevon Hazel increased their advantage in the 39th minute, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet under fortuitous circumstances. Lurking inside the penalty box, awaiting a left-sided corner kick, Hazel stabbed his effort into the left side of the net after the ball fell into his path during a goalmouth scrimmage.
The result was then completed in the 69th via a conversion from experienced midfielder Akin Curry. Receiving the ball inside the six-yard area following a pass from the left side, Curry thumped a right-footed strike into the lower right corner, leaving the goalkeeper footed to the spot.
The tournament continues today at the same venue with another fixture. Hosts Buxton Stars will lock horns with Haslington at 19:00hrs.
