Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, yesterday commissioned a $14M staff quarters-building at Yupukari Village, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
This staff quarters, which was done under the Regional Health Services Budget, is fully equipped with solar systems and can accommodate two medical staff and their families, a release from the Ministry of Health said.
Anthony stated that as part of the Ministry’s effort to improve healthcare and service delivery throughout the country, some areas will need to be staffed with additional health care professionals. Hence, the building was constructed to make provision for health workers at the facility.
The Health Minister further stated that with the development of the community’s telemedicine system, people can do online training.
“We can also do training with the telemedicine equipment.” So, when there is a requirement to connect to access health materials, the equipment and connectivity you already have can be used. We have a programme where we train people to become registered nurses, so if you have people in your community who are interested in that, we can bring some of you on board and you can utilise the telemedicine space when it’s not being used with a patient and go through the lessons and learn,” he explained.
