Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony yesterday commissioned a newly constructed Health Post in the Quiko community, located in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
This health facility which costs approximately $14m is expected to provide services for Maternal and Child Health (MCH), Prevention of Mother to Child Transmissions (PMTCT) care and other clinical services.
During his brief remarks, a release from the Ministry of Health said that Anthony highlighted that $243m was allocated to the region for the improvement of hospital facilities.
From this allocation, he noted that three regional hospitals will be built with the capabilities to perform surgeries.
“This year, we have given another $243m so that we can improve the hospital facilities within the region. So right now, we’ll be building a hospital at Sand Creek, Aishalton, and Karasabai, where we’ll be adding a theatre and other sections that will be able to perform surgeries”, he explained.
Regional Health Officer Dr. Cerdel Mc Watt, in his brief remarks, noted that with the establishment of this facility, more staff will be needed. As such, he advocated for people to apply for the Community Healthcare Worker Programme that will soon be launched within the region.
