Twenty-eight year-old Isaac Lopez was arrested for discharging four rounds in the air on Sunday morning at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
A 29-year-old woman of Parika Access Road, East Bank Essequibo reported to police at Parika that around 03:30 hrs on Sunday, that an identifiable “Spanish man” discharged four rounds in the air in front of her home causing her and her family to run away.
The woman, when interviewed, police said, said that the man had accused her brother of stealing US$3,000 from him. As a result, ranks left for the area making enquiries, where several persons were questioned, and useful information was received.
At about 14:30 hrs, Lopez was contacted on Parika Access Road and told of the allegations against him. He admitted to discharging several rounds in the air because one (Freko) stole US$3,000 from him.
Police escorted him to his home on the Leonora Public Road, West Coast Demerara, where a search was conducted in his bedroom, and a firearm (without any ammunition) was found on top of an AC unit.
He was arrested and escorted to the police station along with the firearm, where it was further examined in his presence, but no serial number was found. The firearm was lodged, and his hands swabbed for gunpowder residue. He was placed in custody pending charges.
