Region Two Administration receives $35M front end loader

Farmers and residents in the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region can expect improved infrastructure especially within the various Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDC) now that the region has received a brand new $35 million front end loader.

The equipment, purchased under the region’s agriculture programme, is expected to boost infrastructure and support road projects. The equipment will be housed at the Drainage and Irrigation (D&I) compound and will be sent to the various communities upon request.

At the simple commissioning ceremony, held at the D&I Compound at Anna Regina, Region Two Chairperson Vilma De Silva said that the region was satisfied with the purchase. She added that the new equipment will address a backlog of pending requests and more services will be delivered to farmers and residents in the region.

She mentioned that the region also has a grader and the loader will assist further.

Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development Anand Persaud said that the Government of Guyana will continue to fulfil requests made by residents. He said that currently there are many transformative projects ongoing in the region and the handing over of the equipment is a testimony of development. He also mentioned that the equipment should be used to serve and not be associated only for friends and family of “comrades”.

Regional Vice Chairman Humace Oodit said that rice farmers and residents had made the request for the equipment and as such the region saw the need.

A rice farmer Tabindra Ramcharran said that the farmers in the region are thankful. He made requests for more such equipment. Ramcharran said that the equipment came at a time when harvesting is currently ongoing in the region.

Before the operator turned the key to the new equipment a coconut was broken.
