Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) lifted the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) T20 Cup after beating Everest Cricket Club by seven wickets in yesterday’s final at Camp Road.
At the Everest Cricket Club ground, the hosts won the toss and opted to bat where they posted 161 for five from 20 overs while the visitors, DCC reached 162 for three in 16.4 overs in reply.
Everest lost Rajendra Chandrika for a 17-ball 15 but Akshaya Persaud and Richie Looknauth joined forces to put on 103 for the second-wicket.
Persaud played a captain’s knock with eight sixes and two fours as he raced to 79 runs from 40 balls while Looknauth made 40 runs from 48 balls. His innings featured one six and three fours. Dexter George ended with 2-24 and Carlton Jacques 2-31.
DCC’s top order did all the heavy lifting under blistering sunshine and heavy winds as Raymond Perez showed his brutality with a 40-ball 58, clobbering eight boundaries along the way.
Perez forged a 71-run stand for the first wicket with Sachin Singh who made 36 runs from 21 balls before being run out.
National player Tevin Imlach saw his team over the line with an unbeaten 45 from 32 balls while Nkosi Beaton chipped in with 12 not out from seven balls. Clinton Pestano was the only bowler to get among the wickets, ending with 2-19.
Imlach ended with the highest individual score of the tournament (162 not out) as well as the most runs (217). Keon Morris had the best figures of 5-17 but Persaud ended as the leading wicket taker, taking 10 wickets. Riyad Latif had the most dismissals with five catches.
Zone A’s Most Valuable Player award went to Leon Andrews of the Guyana Defence Force who scored 143 runs and took seven wickets with two catches. Persaud was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in Zone B with 173 runs, 10 wickets and two catches.
