Kwakwani, Nets and Pacesetters recorded wins when the inaugural edition of the “One Guyana” Basketball Premier League continued on Sunday night at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Kwakwani defeated the Ravens 67-60. Domair Glasgow led the victor with 23 points, while Stanton Rose and Jamal Gilkes tallied 13 points, respectively. Adding six points was Shafey Thomas.
For the loser, Dominic Vincente netted 20 points, while Jude Corlette added 14 points. Supporting him with 12 and 10 points each were Shemar Huntley and Tyrone Hamid.
Meanwhile, the Nets downed the Sonics 72-47. Travis Stewart led the rout with 21 points, while Shaquille Hescott and Pelham Doris added 12 and 10 points apiece. For the loser, Kareem Jackson tallied 21 points, while Junior Lovell and Samuel Downer scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Also, the Pacesetters defeated the Mambas 57-44. Zion Gray recorded 19 points in the win. On the other side, Samuel Thompson netted 17 points.
The tournament, which is a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport (MCY&S) and G-Boats Incorporated, will be administered by the Guyana Basketball Federation. It forms part of the National Sports Academy and features 14 teams divided into two zones, which are the Harpy Eagles and Jaguars Conferences, respectively.
A minimum of 56 fixtures and a maximum of 63 matches are projected for the competition, which concludes in March 2024. The winner of the tournament, which will be played every Saturday at the National Gymnasium, will pocket $1,000,000, while the loser will receive $500,000.
