A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fire at Lot 79 Mosquito Hall, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara last Saturday night.
The man is believed to have maliciously set alight, the two-storey wooden home of popular TikTok personality’s home, 49-year-old Kubram Ramlall called ‘Rakah’, as well as his mother, Shirley Pitamber’s one-storey wooden home which was situated next door.
The Guyana Fire Service in a release, concluded that the fire was the result of arson. It added that the crew from the Mahaica Fire Station responded to the scene around 23.45 hours and upon arrival, a two-storey wooden building was engulfed in flames and additionally, the mother’s home was also destroyed in the fire due to radiated heat from the building of origin.
According to Ramlall, he had a problem with the suspect earlier that evening and the suspect threatened to burn his house down. He claimed that at the time the suspect had a bottle with an unknown liquid in it which he suspected was some sort of accelerant. A short while after, he observed his home was on fire from the lower flat.
An alarm was raised and the Mahaica Fire Service responded and went into action. The fire was extinguished but the house was completely destroyed. No one was injured while Ramlall, his mother, and another occupant, Desmond Randall, are now homeless.
In a subsequent TikTok video, the influencer disclosed that he had lost over $4.5 million worth of belongings in the fire. He explained in the video that before the fire started, he came home and while having a meal, someone kept knocking at his door insistently. When he went outside to investigate, he saw the suspect running away.
Kubram is calling on the government to assist him with a plot of land to rebuild his home on, since the plot that he was living on belongs to his sister.
