Yesterday, contracts worth some $182 million were signed to undertake Phase Two of the rehabilitation works on a number of roadways in the Albouystown and Castello Housing Scheme area in Georgetown.
According to a Department of Public Information (DPI) Facebook video, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, along with his permanent secretary facilitated the signing of 16 contracts to build eight streets and three bridges in the area.
Residents expressed satisfaction as they were awarded the contacts for the rehabilitation works of Phase Two.
Contractor Fabian Jessop, who contributed to the completion of Phase One, disclosed that he was offered the opportunity to complete a portion of Phase Two.
Phase one of the project saw the completion of 1.8 kilometres of road works including the Independence Boulevard. Approximately $140 Million was spent to facilitate eight streets and four connecting bridges as a part of Phase One.
Angelina Christie, representing Angel’s General Enterprises, told DPI that she is elated to have the opportunity to contribute to her community.
“I feel so good because I know that the government is working, and I’m happy that they called us out, as persons living in the community, and contractors, and they’ve given us this work to do, and I am so happy that I can employ persons who live here too,” she said.
Meanwhile, Indar maintained that residents will be hired to execute the projects for community development.
