Residents on Friday held a protest in front of the McGowan Primary School located in Liverpool Village, Corentyne over the state of the road leading to the facility.
They complained that the road which is under construction is damaging the shoes of the children, teachers and parents.
In response, Regional Executive Officer, Narindra Persaud has given the assurance that the road work will be completed by November 1 as stipulated in the contract.
Based on the information gathered, teachers and students were prevented from entering the school on Friday as when they arrived at the location the gates were locked by the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA).
Stabroek News was told that the PTA made a decision to close the gates of the school as they contended that the road is damaging the footwear of those who have to travel to the institution.
Persaud immediately met with the teachers at the location and gave the assurance that the road project would be completed by November 1.
According to information received, the road project which is being done under the Ministry of Public Works commenced in July.
Persaud on Friday pointed out that while the contractor has not gone beyond the time frame, efforts will now be made to possibly fast-track the works given the situation.
The parents have reported that their children will likely return to school tomorrow.
