Guyana Amazon Warriors defeat Trinbago Knight Riders by six wickets

Guyana Amazon Warriors moved back to the top of the table last night after beating Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) by six wickets in match 28 of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Amazon Warriors won the toss in front of a capacity crowd at the National Stadium, Providence and inserted TKR who posted 176 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. Warriors knocked off the target of 177 with 10 balls to spare but lost four wickets along the way.

Playing with a less than full strength side, TKR lost Martin Guptill seven balls into the innings following sharp work and a direct hit from mid-on by Junior Sinclair. Mark Deyal motored to 37 from 20 balls but a back of a length delivery from Keemo Paul had him nicked off and snared sharply by Azam Khan behind the stumps. He struck right boundaries before his departure.

Keacy Carty raced to 83

Keacy Carty joined the fray and forged a 59-run partnership for the third wicket with Chadwick Walton (25). Carty went on to steer Knight Riders to a hefty to score, hitting four sixes and seven fours on his way to a 49-ball 83 as both batsmen were dismissed by Imran Tahir (3-12).

 

Shai Hope finished on 54 not out

It was an unbeaten 54 from Shai Hope that piloted the Warriors to victory, hitting three sixes, including a one-handed hit over long on and two fours during his 37-run blitz.

Smith hammered three sixes and four fours as he utilized his promotion to the top of the order to good effect with 44. He joined Saim Ayub (37) to put on 56 for the opening partnership and 61 for the second wicket with Hope.

Cameos from Khan (12) and Dwaine Pretorius (11) as well as 17 extras ensured the Warriors gave the boisterous crowd a lot to celebrate.
