Richard Charles of Robb Street, Bourda, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates Court before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Monday last, charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It was alleged that on Friday, September 8, at Robb Street, Bourda, Charles had in his possession, a Glock 19 Gen5, 9×19 pistol, serial number BURGH143, without being the holder of a firearm licence. It was also alleged that on the same date and location, he had in his possession 115 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 50 rounds of .223 ammunition.
On the day in question at about 14.30 hrs, CID ranks from Regional Division 4 A, were on a raid exercise. Acting on information received, they proceeded to Jude’s Bike Shop on Robb Street, Bourda, where they contacted Charles. The police told Charles that they were in receipt of certain information and wished to search his home which is located on the same premises. Charles took them to the room he occupies and a search revealed the aforementioned ammunition and firearm in a closet.
Charles was subsequently arrested and under caution, admitted ownership of the items. His confession was captured by both video and audio recording.
The police prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and bail was refused.
Charles is scheduled to make his next court appearance on October 11 for statements.
