A Westminster, West Bank Demerara motorcyclist died at the Georgetown Public Hospital following an accident on the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) yesterday morning.
Dead is Shazad Khan, 52, of Lot 753 Westminster. It is reported that Khan – the rider and owner of motorcycle CL 2370 – was speeding behind another motorcycle, CL639, owned and ridden by Quaison Tasher, a 26-year-old of Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, on the DHB when he got into the accident.
Investigations revealed that Khan was proceeding east along the bridge at a fast rate, behind motorcycle CL 639, which was proceeding in the same direction during the ‘double lane’ period. It is believed that the front wheel of Khan’s motorcycle collided with the right-side rear of motorcycle CL 639. As a result of the collision, Khan lost control of his motorcycle, hit the bridge rail and sustained injuries.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, in an ambulance. He was then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit, suffering from injuries to his head and body. Khan succumbed to his injuries at about 2.30 pm yesterday.
Both motorcycles have been lodged and will be examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.
