Guyana Amazon Warriors will feature tomorrow in the second qualifier after losing by seven wickets to Trinbago Knight Riders at Providence last night in the first qualifier.

Asked to bat in front of a nearly 13,000 home crowd, Amazon Warriors posted 166 for seven by the time their overs ended. Knight Riders then marched into the final as they reached 167 for three with 11 balls remaining.

Amazon Warriors generated another half-century partnership for the first wicket with Saim Ayub and Odean Smith putting on 53. Smith played the supporting role with 15 from 18 balls while Ayub top scored with 49 from 39 balls.

He struck five boundaries including a six before being bowled by Waqar Salamkheil (2-28).

Azam Khan showed brief dominance in his 27-ball 36 but it was Gudakesh Motie’s eight-ball 19 not out and Romario Shepherd’s six-ball 16 that allowed Warriors a decent score.

Knight Riders’ chase was steered by former Warriors’ Chadwick Walton who hammered 80 not out from 57 balls as he pummeled four sixes and six fours.

Walton, who was dropped on 40, forged a 66-run partnership for the third wicket with his skipper, Kieron Pollard who made 23 from 15 balls before being bowled by Dwaine Pretorius. Nicholas also chipped in with a 33-run cameo from 24 balls with a pair of fours and two sixes.

Warriors will go up against defending champions, Jamaica Tallawahs from 19.00 hours tomorrow with the winner going into the final against Knight Riders.
