A 48-year-old female City Constable and her overseas-based friend were on Tuesday shot at the Bourda City Constabulary Outpost by her 50-year-old co-worker, who allegedly became annoyed when he saw the two talking to each other.
Lance Corporal Jammanie Saul, sustained gunshot wounds to her hand, while Miguel Wilson, a 50-year-old overseas-based Guyanese of Section ‘C’ Enterprise, East Coast Demerara suffered a gunshot wound to his left thigh.
The police report stated that the incident occurred at around 7.15 pm while Saul and 50-year-old City Constable were on duty.
Stabroek News understands that Wilson had visited Saul at her workplace and the two sat next to each other chatting, which became annoying to the suspect.
The co-worker, who was armed with the service weapon – a .38 revolver with 6 live rounds – became furious at seeing Saul and Wilson sitting together. This prompted him to point the firearm at both victims and fire three shots at them.
The victims were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The suspect meanwhile, fled the scene. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras.
Stabroek News spoke with Mayor Alfred Mentore yesterday, who informed that Saul’s condition was stable and that she was discharged on Wednesday. However, she will be required to undergo surgery at a later date.
