The matter of the teen driver who was driving his father’s car without permission when he struck and killed 9-year-old Daniel Heywood is still under investigation, Regional Commander of 4’C’, Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram says.
According to reports, Heywood and his siblings were on their way to church at around 10.00 hours on Sunday, when he stopped to tie his shoelaces and was struck down by the 16-year-old teen driver in the vicinity of 12th Street, Dazzell Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
As a result, the impact flung the boy into a nearby trench. He was quickly plucked from the muddy water and rushed to the Dr CC Nicholson Hospital at Nabaclis. However, Heywood was pronounced dead on arrival.
His mother, Shanti Heywood, related to Stabroek News that her children had left for church and at about 10:15 am that day she received a call informing her that her child had been struck down and had been taken to hospital. Shanti added that her other children explained that they were standing on a bridge waiting for Daniel to tie his shoelace.
