A cordon and search exercise conducted by police ranks from Regional Division 4 ‘C’ in Mon Repos, yesterday turned up a haul of 144 grammes of cannabis.
Between 11.30 hours and 12.00 hours, the police visited a house at 3rd Street, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. There they observed a man on a bench outside who identified himself as a 26-year-old painter. The search was conducted in and around the premises, but nothing illegal was found.
However, when police searched the parapet of located in front of the premises, they found a black plastic bag partially buried under the sand. It contained a quantity of transparent zip lock packs with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The painter along with the suspected cannabis was taken to the Beterverwagting Police Station and when weighed, the cannabis amounted to 144 grams. The painter is still in custody assisting with the investigation.
